Understanding experiential aspects of creative work
Experiences – as ordered patterns of information and first-person knowledge of the world – are an elementary part of the work of artists, performers, designers, engineers, chefs, and many other creative professionals. Yet, we know relatively little about the role of experiences and the lived experience of creative professionals in creative work. Hence, here we invite PhD proposals that set out to explore and better understand experience and the experiential aspects of creative work from the perspective of the creative professional. Possible topics for the PhD proposal include but are not limited to the following broad questions about experience and the work of creative professionals:
What are the subjective, experiential aspects of creative activities?
What is the role of embodied cognition in the decision making of creative professionals?
What is the role of affect and emotions in creative work?
What is the role of experiential learning and ‘design thinking’ in creative work?
How can physical or virtual simulations help creative work?
The educational background of a successful candidate is in architectural/industrial/engineering design. An additional educational background in psychology and/or management studies is beneficial. In an ideal case, the candidate has also background as a creative professional.
